Going to Nicaragua and want a mix of surf and adventure? We’ve put together the perfect itinerary for you to pack your days at La Barra Surf Camp and make sure you get the best of what this gorgeous country has to offer – on both land and sea.
Day One: Settle in to your new digs
- Arrive and get a warm greeting from the stokedest AST staff
- Listen to hot tunes from your AST DJ on your drive to La Barra
- Have a home-cooked local lunch with new friends
- Survey the pool and enjoy an inaugural beer in the hammocks overlooking the ocean
- Mosey along the beach and lounge in the mini lagoons and rock caves
- Get a surf overview with your surf guide or take a beginner surf lesson
- Enjoy a savory dinner made with local ingredients
- Finally get around to unpacking
Day Two: Surf Yourself Out
- Drink a coffee and watch the sunrise, have a light breakfast
- Hit the surf - hop on the boat to El Transito
- Grab some grub - fresh seafood perhaps?
- Recharge with an afternoon hammock nap or read and lounge in the pool
- Gear up and go – sunset surf, walk along the tidepools at Miramar
- Enjoy a candlelit dinner and see your surf photos from the day on the outdoor lounge TV
Day Three: Regenerate
- Sleep in late (for once) – 8 am wake up, enjoy a big breakfast
- Leave on a boat for relaxing deep sea fishing
- Lunch - grill up your catch
- Rejuvenate with an afternoon massage
- Grab snorkel gear and do your best fish impersonation
- Stretch out with a sunset yoga on the second floor ocean view yoga deck
- Have dinner and enjoy a few drinks at the bar - play pool in the lounge, maybe go to Bar Ocho down the beach and enjoy the famous local Nicaraguan rum
Day Four: Experience the Country
- Enjoy a coffee from the hammock, watch the sunrise
- Have a light breakfast
- Get prepped for your tour of Nicaragua
- First stop: Leon – Volcano ashboarding, Basilica Catedral
- Lunch in Masaya – see the biggest marketplace in the country
- Granada – walk through colonial town with captivating architecture
- Isletas boat ride, kayak on Lake Nicaragua
- Drive back through Leon, experience city nightlife, finally get around to learning salsa
Day Five: Back at the beach
- Have that last sunrise coffee and a big breakfast - maybe our famous pancakes
- Boat over to Casitas for surf, snorkeling, and lounging on the beach
- Lunch - Take a cooking class with Margelia to bring some tradition home with you
- Take a solo sunset cruise, contemplate life and travels
- Have your last filling dinner, cry because you have to leave
- Pack and say your heartfelt goodbyes
